Inveryne, Argyll, Scotland
2013
We were approached to remodel this period farmhouse in order to provide a guest suite and extension to take advantage of the new gardens to the rear of the Mill House. The old ‘piggery’ was refurbished and extended with a focus on framing views from the new living room onto the rolling landscape and Loch Fyne. The new accommodation provides a living room with open plan kitchen, bedroom and en-suite bathroom.
The thin, boldly coloured window frames contrast well with the new load bearing stone walls. Internally, the materials remain simple and warm with extensive built-in furniture to make full use of the small space.
The Mill House was also extended to provide a carefully proportioned loggia overlooking the gardens and enclosing the old mill wheel. This covered outdoor terrace was considered essential given the ever-changing Scottish climate.
