Brooks Mews, London, W1
2008
This gallery was created at the ground floor level of a 1990s office block in Mayfair. Two free-flowing, but dividable, spaces were created whilst concealing a central structural column. The materials and detailing are carried out with precision and simplicity allowing for the display of art to be predominant. The new stair and the reception desk are clad with basalt stone. Working with the lighting designers, Mindseye, the evenly lit gallery employs flush-mounted frameless polycarbonate lighting panels and as well as ceiling track for spotlights. The shopfront window was obscured with a large pivoting wall to maximise internal walls and allowing access both for shop front art hanging and also allowing large art pieces to enter into the gallery. All desks and joinery are bespoke MMA designs.
MMA also designed the gallery’s offices and private viewing room at 52 Brooks Mews in 2012.
